Shutter Device

Inspired by the creator/director’s hands framing a shot, our Shutter Device brings focus to the center, drawing attention to the content. Each Shutter contains two L-shaped sections. These sections expand outward. This execution is best suited for large-scale, minimal-text static placements.

One Image

  • Compositions containing one image can work well with or without colored sections. Colors should be complementary and carefully chosen.
  • Scale the image to help create depth. See the Magnified Imagery section for more detail.
  • Monochromatic, atmospheric or textural imagery and solid brand colors can be used to help draw attention to the focal points.

See the Building a Shutter Device section for more information.

Two or Three Images

  • Subjects should be varied in scale to created a clear hierarchy and colors should be complementary and carefully chosen.
  • Images can be from the same show/genre or multiple shows/genres.
  • Monochromatic, colorized, atmospheric or textural imagery and solid brand colors can be used to help draw attention to the focal points.
  • Crop images in a way that highlights their focal points.

See the Building a Shutter Device section for more information.

Four or More Images

  • This option is reserved for large scale, high-impact horizontal placements only.
  • Images should feature multiple shows/genres.
  • We recommend making the central image either monochromatic, colorized, atmospheric or textural. Or a solid brand color.
  • Images and colors should be complementary and carefully chosen.
  • Subjects should be varied in scale to created a clear hierarchy; with images progressing from more zoomed in images at the edge of the frame to more zoomed out images closer to the centre, or vice versa.
  • Crop images in a way that highlights their focal points.

See the Building a Shutter Device section for more information.

Color Only

  • Color only compositions can be a striking option when typography is intended to be the only focus.
  • We recommend using one shutter device (three colours) for color only placements. Refer to the Color Pairings section.

See the Building a Shutter Device section for more information.

Building a Shutter Device

The thickness and orientation of the L-shaped sections can differ from the examples shown. The height and width of sections can vary depending on use;

  • When containing images or text, the sections are generally thicker and when containing only color the sections are generally thinner.
  • On horizontal layouts the vertical lengths of each L-shaped section are thicker than the horizontal lengths.
  • On vertical layouts the horizontal lengths of each L-shaped section are thicker than the vertical lengths.

We do not recommend this device for square placements or small placements.

Attribution

Attribution must be included on all imagery/footage in Beatrice Medium (title case, 75% opacity) in the following format: ‘IP Title, Network/Studio‘. It can be positioned in any corner of the frame and should not interfere or draw attention from the subject.

Secondary Imagery

Monochromatic, atmospheric or textural imagery should be carefully chosen in color and composition to compliment the main focal point and not draw attention away it. Atmospheric or textural images should relate/add to the main focal point. Do not colorize imagery containing talent.

Motion

Each Shutter contains two L-shaped sections. In the Motion Toolkit, these sections can expand outward and inward. The Shutter Devices can be applied vertically as well.

The vertical sides of the L sections should be wider than the bottom for horizontal videos, and vice versa for vertical videos.

Avoid using an excessive number of Shutter Devices together. The fewer the better. For color combinations, see the Color section.
